Camden Council today joined thousands of individuals, schools, businesses and organisations across the country in a new campaign to tackle climate change.
The Council has backed the 10:10 campaign as a further symbol of its ongoing commitment to reduce CO2 emissions.
By signing up Camden Council has pledged to work to reduce its CO2 emissions by 10 per cent in 2010. This builds on our existing plans to tackle our contribution to climate change and meet our existing 8.5% reduction target by March 2011.
Camden Council Leader Keith Moffitt, said: “Camden Council has a strong record on tackling climate change and reducing carbon emissions. By committing to 10:10 we want to demonstrate how important it is for people to get together and take action collectively to protect the environment."
Councillor Chris Knight, Camden Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: "Residents have told us they want us to do everything we can to protect the environment. The Council's 10:10 pledge again underlines this important commitment.”
Camden Council has already established its carbon emissions baseline and is working with the Carbon Trust to develop a detailed, costed programme of carbon reduction measures, and has already achieved the following:
